Rainfall Totals
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:00:15 pm »

Hi,
There's been a few programs on the TV recently about the rainfalls last year.
What totals did people get last year?
My total was 1215.5mm
cheers,
Bill.

Mine was 1095mm, which was well down on the 1226mm form 2011.

2012 1419mm
2011 1915mm
2010 1113mm
2009 1956mm
2008 2019mm

Lots of places that were "very wet" last year will have been drier than our "rather dry"!

According to http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/2012/annual.html the UK average in 2012 was 1331mm...

Hi,
Glad to see still some activity here!

David, over 2 metres of rain, that certainly on the wet side!

Towards the end of last year I aquired a 5 inch met office pattern rain gauge and in the few months I've been using it I think my own figures for the past couple of years are a bit under.
The 5 inch is in a better location and doesn't seem to suffer wind issues like the REMEX. The differences are small but they start to accumulate over time.

After putting a post on the sandysoft forum. I think some people on here are on that also, but one of the respondants mentioned an American orgainsation called CoCoRaHS.
If you didn't see that post I can recommend a look. I think it's pretty cool. I'd like to see a specific manual rain gauge page on the WOW site. (They didn't respond to my email about it though...)

Cheers,
Bill.

Topography plays a big part.

Some friends with a good quality manual weather station within 5 miles of here clocked up just over 2m even in 2012!
