Hi Folks,

A quick post to introduce myself to the Scottish Weather members!

I've set up a weather station "Forth Weather" based in Dalgety Bay Fife in the past few weeks using an OS WMR200.

I've always been interested in weather since I was a kid and eventually bit the bullet and bought some kit .....and so far I'm really enjoying my new hobby  Photography has always been my real hobby and passion but that has over the past couple of years turned into a part time profession so I needed something new to relax over so turned to weather! At some stage I would like to combine the two and try to capture extreme weather landscapes in the Forth area.

The Forth Weather website is a bit sparse at the moment, driven by Weather Display Live but over time I hope to add a weathercam, some more sensors and display much more information from and about my station.

Anyway ....enough of my rambling. I look forward to talking with you guys in the near future. Please be gentle with me cos I'm just a newbie !!

I'm sure you'll do fine. It's only just over a year since I got my first weather station myself, and there are quite a few other recent entrants here - along with others who have far more substantial experience, but who I'm sure remember what it was like at first.

As you're using Weather Display then we can guide you to a complete website template that's made for WD and is relatively easy to setup. There are a few of us on here that have used the template and can guide you through the process if needed, the SCWN website is based on this template in fact. 
This is the basic template and you just alter it to your own requirements: World Template

Have a look & see what you think, any questions then just ask.

Welcome indeed..As Martin has pointed out already, there are some pretty good template sets around...the "World Template" version is being used by quite a lot of us now and even I was able to get it up and running..

Hello again folks,

Thank you for the nice welcome and advice on web templates. I'm sure I'll have a few questions to fire your way when I get unstuck!

I've just placed an order with Hobby Boards to get my 1-wire system up and running .....first project a wet leaf sensor!!

Probably off topic but where can I get a 1-wire solar sensor? I have an OS UV index sensor but would like to monitor hours of sunlight.

You can get the solar senor from Hobby Boards as well.
I think it's worth the extra to get the coating put on the PCB with the solar, just to protect it.

Thanks Martin,

I spotted the solar detector on their website a few hours ago but they were showing out of stock. Just went back on and they are now back in stock 

Please don't tell my good wife .......but I've just added one to my order. Worse than that I threw caution to the wind and ordered their lightening detector too  both with the coating.

Hi Neil,

Seems like your of to a good start. I am also a Newbe and even had trouble getting to grips with this Forum to start of with, but have found everyone most helpful.

Photography and weather? Hmm think we must all be nuts, just added a Gallery to my web site, still very amateur though,

Worse than that I threw caution to the wind and ordered their lightening detector too  both with the coating.

Here's a idea for your Lightning detector mounting.
I uses a weatherproof electrical junction box and a length of plastic conduet:


They have altered the PCB now though and the battery fits directly onto the PCB.

I'll have a trip round to the electrical store tomorrow morning and get the bits ready before my board arrives.
