Isle Of Barra Storm Summary (Confirmed Wind Speeds)

On Saturday the 17th January 2009 hurricane force winds hit many places in Scotland. Where I live in Isle Of Barra there was damage to windows, roofing, vehicles, trees and poly tunnels.
Confirmed wind speeds on Isle Of Barra,
12pm 35mph gust 50mph
1pm 34mph gust 47mph
2pm 42mph gust 60mph
3pm 50mph gust 67mph
4pm 58mph gust 82mph
5pm 76mph gust 107mph
6pm 63mph gust 89mph
7pm 98mph gust 120mph
8pm 82mph gust 101mph
9pm 82mph gust 105mph
10pm 85mph gust 112mph
11pm 50mph gust 67mph
Midnight 40mph gust 58mph
At 7pm a hurricane category 3 gust was recorded.

Hi Sean,
Interesting to see the timing of the highest gusts with you compared to mine, which were around 4 hours later, just goes to show the speed at which the system was moving North.
Is this the data you recorded at your own station only or has it been confirmed by comparing your data to another source?

Yes it moved very quickly up north my weather station failed due to the power cut but just before it went off it recorded a gust of 95mph. The data was recorded at the Barra Airport station its highest gusts beat the other station on the east side and mine because the power went off.
It will be interesting because there is a mast very high up its doing a wind project to see if its ok to put a wind farm somewhere so I will have to wait until they confirm there highest gust which will be a lot higher than 120mph.
